American Sign Language Interpreter

Hi! I’m Denise.

I am a S.O.D.A (sibling of a Deaf Adult), which is one of the main reasons I started taking ASL classes.

I graduated from El Paso Community College from the Interpreting program in 2019 and I will graduate from William Woods University in Sping 2022, double majoring in Interpreting ASL-English and Deaf Human Services. I interpret various types of interpreting assignments such as educational, religious, mental health, and medical settings.

I assist residents of El Paso with interpreting services and assist residents of El Paso and Dallas with VR services.

EDUCATION

K-12 and Postsecondary Education

I have interpreted a vast variety of topics in the educational spectrum. The classes have ranged from a second-grade science class to computer science at a community college.

RELIGIOUS

Church services

I interpret the songs and the sermon for a group of 9 deaf members who attend the church.

MENTAL HEALTH

Advocate and Interpreter

I have interpreted in mental health settings such as AA meetings, group therapy, and individual therapy sessions. I am also the coordinator for the Deaf Sensitivity and Cultural Competency training for Mental Health providers where I advocate that more providers should be aware of the needs of the Deaf community.
